Now it's over - looking back over Marathon 2

It's Monday and I'm hopefully going to enjoy this day of rest. Here are some of my videos from day 2 which gives you a flavour of how tough it was. It was a glorious sunny day. Probably the worst for scenery out of the 3 marathons, albeit the last 8 miles were beautiful, but I was past caring at that point!

It was bliss getting in the bath last night with a cup of tea (Geezer knows how good this feels!). Slept like a baby and ouch my legs feel sore today. No blisters, just some bruising around my ankles and really sore ribs - not sure why - probably had my rucksack on too tight!

Oh yes it's over and I did it!

3rd marathon done and dusted. Have you ever been on the coastal path from Lulworth Cove to Studland. The cliffs are so steep the've built steps into them. I've never stumbled up so many, only to find that we're going straight back down the other side!!! Thankfully the second half was a little easier, with 3 miles of beach to finish. Running on the beach - wind in my hair, sea lapping at my ankles... Finished with a sprint to the line and a smile. Another 28 miles by my GPS watch and just under the magic 6 hours. An hour in a mini bus back to base...oh how i seized up...and then i drove home, big mac and milkshake in hand. Great video of me trying to get up my steps to the front door. Anyway I'll load the photos and video tomorrow. Thanks for all your comments, texts, and sponsorship. Over £800 - really amazing.

Marathon number 2 - it's in the bag!

Yeehaaaa marathon number 2 in the bag.

Well i say marathon...it was actually nearly 28 miles today. The first 20 were relatively straightforward. A lap of Portland and the promenade at Weymouth, then came the cliffs leading to Lulworth Cove. Going up hurt my lungs and coming down killed my thighs, so the pace really slowed. 5hrs 26mins for 28 miles was ok...I think i will have slipped down the leader board a touch!!!

Once you've done 2, you fell that your almost there. 54 miles done and a mere 26 or so to go. It's supposed to be the hardest terrain tomorrow so I'm expecting my slowest time, but I'm sure I'll make it. Then just a 2 hr drive home. Not sure how I'll get out of the car. Now time for food and a massage. I'm too tired to upload any pics today!

Day One Complete

Here I am back at the B&B with day one under by belt. 4hrs 54mins of the muddiest, hilliest, windiest 26.2 miles I've ever experienced. I'm in one piece after having a beasting in the massage tent. All was going well until the magic 20 mile marker. After that i was shuffling like an old granny. I checked the leaderboard and I'm 19th. Not bad as i think there are well over 200 taking part. Not sure if i can hang on in that high up the final standings, but its giving me something to try and focus on!

I'm packed!!

Now just got to survive one more day at work without catching the Noro virus or breaking a leg. Heading straight for my B&B from work then onto Enzo's on Weymouth Seafront for pasta (perhaps a cheeky Peroni) and hopefully a sound nights sleep before it all begins.

We've reached over the £750 target now so many thanks to you all.

Look at that for a set of steps...Where are the flat bits!

4 days to go!

It's Monday 22nd March. My last training run is over. I should really run for 30 mins tomorrow, but is that really going to make the difference...I've been saying that for a few runs lately! Anyway on Sunday I finished with 90 mins including Lansdown Lane. Those who don't run around Bath may not know this, but I've run up everyone of the hills around here, and this is the hardest by far. It was a good measure for how I am feeling and I got up it a breeze.

Left hip is really sore though, almost feels dislocated at times...not ideal for 78.6 miles. Woke up last night for the second time unable to bend my left leg...arrrgh what is happening. Thankfully my pretend Tonsillitis has cleared and so nothing can stop me now.

I should be packing and I will in a minute as soon as I have this blog up and running ready for the video and pictures of the whole event.
